Dodge Viper ACR sets 7:03.45 lap at Nurburgring
A fifth generation Dodge Viper ACR has just set a 7:03.45 lap time at the Nurburgring, in the first attempt by a group of privateers.
With Dominik Farnbacher, a professional racing driver, behind the wheel, the entirely stock (apart from a commemorative GTS-R livery) Viper, shod in street-legal factory-fitted Kumho Ecsta V720 tyres, set the time in its first traffic-free timed lap on a dry day at the track.
Although the current Dodge Viper ACR has claimed 13 production-car track records across the United States, there has never been a factory effort to set a lap-time at the Nurburging. Instead, a group of Viper enthusiasts launched a crowd-funded campaign to take the 2017 Viper ACR to the Nordschleife. The 7:03.45 time, although unofficial is the fastest ever real-wheel drive, production car lap of the Ring, beating out the 7:10.92 time set by a Mercedes-AMG GT R in December 2016.
The time is also faster than Dodge’s last factory-backed effort, which saw a fourth-generation Viper ACR post a time of 7:12.13 in 2011.
