Aston Martin shows off new Vantage

21 November 2017

Aston Martin has revealed its spectacular new Vantage, which benefits from a bold but efficient design language. Key to this concept was aerodynamic performance, the front splitter directs airflow underneath the car where a system of fences channel cooling air where it is needed, as well as feeding the rear diffuser with clean airflow.

The underbody works in tandem with the side gills in the body’s surface, which bleed air pressure out from the front wheel arches, and the pronounced upswept rear deck lid to generate a significant level of downforce.

This aerodynamic shape is propelled through the air by Aston Martin’s potent new alloy 4-litre twin-turbo V8. Set low and as far back in the chassis as possible for optimal centre of gravity and weight distribution, the high performance engine develops 517 bhp at 6000 rpm and 505 lb ft of torque between 2000-5000 rpm. This, combined with a 1530 kg dry weight gives the new car an impressive power to weight ration and the performance to match.

The new Vantage deploys its power through the rear wheels by way of a rear-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. It is able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, before going on to a maximum speed of 195 mph. As well as several advanced electronic systems to improve performance and control, the new car also features an electronic rear differential. This E-Diff is linked to the car’s electronic stability control system, so it can more effectively direct performance to the relevant wheel.

Unlike a traditional mechanical LSD, it can go from fully open to 100 percent locked in a matter of milliseconds. At higher speeds, this immediate response enables the system to take very fine control of the car’s dynamic behaviour, making the car feel much more composed both in terms of straight-line stability and its cornering performance.

Aston Martin president chief executive officer, Dr Andy Palmer said: “It speaks volumes for the outgoing Vantage that it is the single most successful model in Aston Martin’s history,” explained Aston Martin’s president chief executive officer Andy Palmer. “Creating a worthy successor has been a challenge to relish and a huge source of motivation. I’m enormously excited by what we’ve created: a new Vantage that’s more explicit in looks and intent, wrapping heart-pounding performance and dazzling dynamics into an everyday usable package. A true sports car with a sharper look and a keener dynamic edge, the new Vantage is the Aston Martin pure driving machine enthusiasts have been waiting for.”
