BMW M3 CS announced

8 November 2017

BMW has announced the arrival of the new special edition M3 CS, which is, according to the Bavarian brand, ‘the perfect combination of high performance, dynamic performance and everyday usability’.

The CS uses a generous amount of carbon fibre reinforced plastic which leads to a low kerb weight while a more sporting suspension set-up, increased power and torque and a unique interior design add to the car’s dynamic prowess. Power, which has been hiked by 10 bhp over the M3 with Competition pack, comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six. This uses two spontaneously responsive mono-scroll turbochargers, which work in conjunction with the precision fuel injection system, the Valvetronic variable valve control system and the double Vanos stepless camshaft adjustment to eke out 460 bhp and 442 lb ft of torque.

This power pushes the M3 CS’s 1585kg to 62 in 3.9 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 174 mph. Enabling drivers to use this performance on the racetrack is both the Adaptive M suspension and the Active M differential, which further boosts the ability of the standard Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres to grip the road.

Just 100 of the limited models will come to the UK, with orders being taken at the start of 2018. The price for the extra power, carbon fibre reinforced plastic body panels and prestige of owning the top M3 isn’t however, insubstantial coming in £25,000 more expensive than an M3 Competition at £86,630.
