RML Aston Martin Vulcan for the road

1 September 2016

Driven by customer requests to convert their track-only Vulcan supercar for road compliance, RML Group announced details of its road conversion project.

Just 24 examples of the 7.0-litre V12, 820 bhp, all-carbon fibre Aston Martin Vulcan will be built. Conceived as a motorsport-inspired, track-only supercar and offered in conjunction with an extensive and detailed programme of intensive driver training, the track-spec Aston Martin Vulcan offers race car levels of aerodynamic downforce with a power-to-weight ratio in excess of the British marque’s V12 Vantage GT3 race cars.

Aside from the challenge of making the Aston Martin Vulcan comply with the many legal and legislative requirements for road use, RML’s key objective is to preserve this incredible car’s uncompromising nature, yet at the same time ensure it has the finesse to be useable on the public road.

To this end RML will fine tune key elements of the Vulcan’s state-of-the-art race-bred hardware. The road conversion process is to be handled by RML Group’s automotive specialists, with all work conducted at RML’s headquarters in Wellingborough in the UK. Open to cars from any market that complies with UK/EU Individual Vehicle Approval, the conversion process will take between three to four months. The first road-converted Aston Martin Vulcan is scheduled for completion later this year.

“This is a tremendously exciting project, and one that is perfectly suited to RML’s world-leading expertise in managing one-off and ultra low-volume engineering projects,” said Michael Mallock, RML key accounts director. “The Aston Martin Vulcan is an incredible machine conceived to perform brilliantly on track. Converting it for road use yet preserving its extreme character and blistering performance is just the kind of challenge we relish, and one we’re extremely proud of rising to. The results are sure to be one of the most extraordinary road cars of all-time.”
